New Action Items
- Peter: Ask Rich Parker (Williams’ Pilot) if he might be interested in serving on PASCO board next week when at Nationals.
- Peter: Send out a message to all PASCO members asking for volunteers, both to serve in board positions and to edit WestWind.
- Karol: Ask her CPA how much she would charge to audit PASCO’s books.
- Peter: Take Fred’s list of coordinates from BLM of locations of monitoring towers and enter them as a turnpoint file in SeeYou so that people can download them and see if they’re an issue for their soaring safety (to be made available from PASCO web site.)
- Karol/Jay: Contact SSA about getting the PASCO Reno Procedures (or a subset thereof) published in Soaring with a link to the full thing on the PASCO web site. Also forward to Region 12 (Cindy Brickner) so they can publish it in their newsletter.
2. Treasure’s report Hans:
- Two membership batches from Ty in the last month. A few hundred dollars. Checks still have to be entered.
- Hans: Regarding the Audit: Have spoken to a number of Treasurers of Air Sailing, Truckee & BASA.
- Only Air Sailing has done an audit up till now. They would continue that if they can find a CPA with reasonable cost. Conducting an audit is something the Treasurer cannot be involved in, except for handing over documentation and organizing the audit. Karol: it’s a requirement of the PASCO charter though. We should check to see how much it will cost before discarding the idea.
3. Banquet & Seminars Preparation Site, speaker, topics Discussion:
- Bruce: been to five different places. Comes down to hotel vs. non-hotel. Non-hotel cheaper and more flexible. We’re figuring 100 people for the dinner, 60 for the seminar. The Hilton near 580/680 would cost upwards of $4,000; $40/head. Do we want to jump from charging $15 per person last year to $40? Last year spent $3500, lost $2500
- Peter: Making it cheap is nice, but it was so much work.
- Bruce: Heller Museum would be in the range of $3400-$3500. We’d have more flexibility. Not tied to their caterer. Would rather have it the Heller than at a hotel. Much more interesting place. And, it’s heated! Spending $30 person minimum at a hotel.
- Carol: We had really good feedback from the last time it was there. Plus, we made it a Wings program and had power pilot transition sessions. Had four different sittings of it.
- Peter: We had different tracks, with power-specific and glider-specific programs.
- Bruce: Will go by again next week to talk with the woman there to finalize. Reasonable to spend about $3500?
- Peter: Yes, we’ll charge more.
Speakers:
- Bruce: Sent a draft letter to Peter regarding Sully, can mail it off in the next few days once he gets feedback. Another possibility is Allen Brown who gave a talk at Watsonville Air Show. He was the lead guy at Lockheed Skunkworks on F117 development. Trying to contact him as well.
4. Membership Issues and Promotion
Spiritwear: Joel has re-created PASCO logo art and has received (paper) apparel catalogs from supplier. Joel will put together some sample designs and discuss with Peter.
5. Communications
- a. Website Peter: No updates from Larry-- Has sent him paginated and converted downloadable version of Westwind. Hans has the print version. WestWind should be out in the next 10 days or so. Looks very good!
- b. WestWind Hans: it is at the printer. Waiting to get labels from Ty. Cost is about $600. Though this time will be higher as the number of pages is larger. Should be done in a few days. Karol: this is my last issue. Needs help! Peter: will reiterate the need for a new editor with his member appeal.
6. Safety Issues
- Reno Airspace Team Updates (Fred, Karol. Peter): Peter: Main activity of team 1 is the revised PASCO Procedures. Went together well and think they’re clearer now. We need to get it widely distributed. How best to do that?
- Discussion: Send it down to Region 12 for their newsletter. Get it or a subset published in Soaring with a link to the full thing on the PASCO web site.
- Team 2: Haven’t had any update from Rolf on interface with Harlow. Darryl Ram has done nothing about ADSB, though that seems to be further off now.
- FSDO/FAA meetings: Fred: No update Talk to NorCal/Oakland about Hollister glider traffic: No update.
7. Contest Updates
Regionals and Nationals
- Peter: No real changes. Avenal has been cancelled.
- Crazy Creek Regionals went well. Results in WestWind. Dave Greenhill won. Peter could only fly the first weekend. Wonderful! In terms of facility and flying it was if it had never been closed. Jim Indebro was keen on having a winch installed there. Is interested in an electric winch. (Marc: Too early for electric winches—technology not there yet.)
- Nationals start this coming weekend at Montague. We have a really poor turnout. 10 open, 10 standard, 8 regionals. Not sure what the issue is—everyone is into OLC, the economy or poor advertising? The 15 meter nationals in Cordele GA was rained out, could only get three days in and so no contest.
8. Winch activities progress
- Marc: Is a week away from distributing renderings and plans. Looking for people to volunteer and get involved. Figure out what needs to be built or bought. It would be better with more involvement of course, but expects to get started nonetheless.
9. PASCO Director positions
- Peter: Will send out an email blast to see if we can get some volunteers.
10. SSA updates Jay: Nothing new. But, Alby is on his way in Texas!
11. New Business
None.
